— Former Zillow and OfferUp executive Chloe Harford joined the board of directors at Oakland, Calif.-based Roofstock. She also currently serves on the board of Seattle real estate startup JetClosing.

“I was attracted by the team’s deep industry expertise, the innovative data-fueled tech platform and marketplace they have built,” said Harford in a press release.

Roofstock is a fintech company that allows individuals to invest in single family rental homes. The company recently acquired property management platform Great Jones and has raised $133 million in total funding to date.

 — Redmond, Wash.-based Kymeta announced Walter Berger and Doug Hutcheson as co-CEOs of the Bill Gates-backed mobile connectivity company.

Berger was most recently president, a title he will retain, and COO. Hutcheson has served as Kymeta’s executive chairman since 2019 and will continue in that role along with his new responsibilities.

Rendered.AI CEO Nathan Kundtz previously served as Kymeta’s CEO, however the role remained vacant after his departure in 2018.

Kymeta also this week announced a partnership OneWeb to test mobile satellite broadband service.

— Seattle health tech startup Optimize Health has hired Todd Haedrich as CEO. Haedrich, based in Portland, Maine, was previously an executive at Covetrus and athenahealth. Co-founder and former CEO Jeff LeBrun will become chief strategy officer and retain his position as executive chairman.

Founded in 2015, Optimize sells an end-to-end monitoring service used by customers including independent practices, hospital systems, and more. It raised $15.6 million in September 2020 and hired three other new executives in August.

— Convoy CEO Dan Lewis joined the advisory board of Bellevue, Wash.-based startup CityBldr. Founded in 2016, CityBldr makes software that analyzes zoning and land data to assess properties redevelopment potential. Earlier this year it added a tool to identify potential sites for affordable housing.

— Satellite startup Xplore added former astronaut Paul Richards as co-CTO and chief engineer, based out of the company’s 22,000-square-foot facility in Redmond, Wash.

He was most recently VP and CTO at Genesis Engineering Solutions and previously spent 13 years at NASA. Xplore is developing satellites for interplanetary missions. Richards will lead the team building Xcraft, the commercial space company’s low earth orbit satellites.

— AI researcher Aylin Caliskan joined the University of Washington’s new Responsible AI Systems and Experiences team. The group researches “how intelligent information systems interact with human society” including methods to detect bias in machine learning and AI.

Caliskan was most recently an assistant professor at The George Washington University. She has her doctorate in computer science from Drexel University and a masters in engineering focused on robotics from the University of Pennsylvania.

Lisa Kalscheur is now chief marketing officer at Notarize, an online notary platform. She was previously CMO at Kibo Commerce and Monetate.

Notarize is primarily remote with headquarters in Boston. Kalscheur will remain based in Seattle.

— Planetary scientist Alex Parker joined the SETI Institute as a research scientist based on Whidbey Island in Washington state. He was most recently a principal scientist at the Southwest Research Institute. A private nonprofit, the SETI Institute’s mission is to understand the origin of life in the universe.

— The Bellevue Chamber announced Mutual Materials CEO Kendall Anderegg as the business organization’s new chair and added nine new board members.

Andrea Buckmeier is now vice president of marketing for the Seattle Kraken, the city’s NHL expansion team. She was most recently director of integrated marketing at REI and previously spent more than a decade at Starbucks in a variety of marketing roles.

The Seattle Kraken will play its inaugural game on Oct. 12 and first home game at Amazon-sponsored Climate Pledge Arena on Oct. 23.

Steve Sandmeyer, a former sports and entertainment consultant at Google, joined Data Skrive as director of relationship development. The Seattle startup’s automated sports content platform is used by the Associated Press and university athletic departments.
