Matt Hulett, a veteran of the Seattle tech and startup scene, has been named CEO and president of PetMed Express, a publicly traded, Florida-based online pet pharmacy.

Hulett, 51, most recently led Rosetta Stone through back-to-back acquisitions as co-president of the language learning company, which was publicly traded prior to its October 2020 acquisition by Cambia Learning Group. Rosetta Stone was sold by Cambia to IXL Learning in March.

PetMed Express, which operates under the trade name, “1-800-PetMeds,” posted $309 million in sales and $30.6 million in profits in its 2021 fiscal year, which ended in March. The company said in June that it would not be renewing the contract of its longtime president and CEO, Menderes Akdag.

Founded in 1996, the company had 219 employees as of earlier this year.

Hulett was previously entrepreneur in residence at Voyager Capital, chief product officer at HR tech company TINYpulse, CEO at online retailer ClickBank, senior vice president in charge of RealNetworks’ games division, CEO at AdXpose and president of Expedia’s corporate travel division.

He told GeekWire that he expects to maintain a home in Seattle while also working regularly out of the PetMed Express headquarters in Florida.

A graduate of the University of Washington, Hulett has a book slated for release in May 2022, called, “UNLOCK: Five Questions to Discover Your Business Potential.”
