We can’t work nonstop, or spend unlimited time trying to homeschool the kids. Certainly we’re watching lots of television during the lockdowns associated with the pandemic. So what’s on? Amazon shared some stats from March showing changes in how people are using its Fire TV platform for apps and content compared to the previous month.

  • Fitness apps worldwide are seeing a 40 percent average increase in usage on Fire TV. Content from exercise bike makers Peloton jumped 100 percent in active customers and app duration. And more customers are using meditation and yoga apps.
  • Family friendly content consumption across Fire TV is up 40 percent, with Prime Video seeing a 100 percent increase in streams of its catalog in that area. “Frozen II,” “Trolls,” “Paw Patrol” and “Harry Potter” are top movie searches. Educational apps are also seeing a 400 percent increase in usage time.
  • People who use Alexa to search for content with voice have made the Netflix series “Tiger King” the most-searched TV show.
  • And for those who can’t get enough coronavirus coverage, use of Amazon’s news app on Fire TV has doubled.
