Thanks to ventures like Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin, the Seattle area has been raising its profile in the space industry. Now it’ll be the home of an entire space program: Kerbal Space Program 2, the next generation of a much-loved spaceflight simulation game.

  • Private Division, which acquired Kerbal Space Program in 2017, announced today that it’s creating a new development studio in the Seattle area to focus on updating the game. Key members of the KSP2 team — including studio head Jeremy Ables, creative director Nate Simpson and lead producer Nate Robinson — will continue their work on the sequel at the studio.
  • Over the past decade, space geeks (including SpaceX CEO Elon Musk) have used KSP to build virtual versions of real or totally imagined spacecraft, and then launch them in accordance with the rules of real-life rocket science. Private Division, which is headquartered in New York City, says the PC version has sold more than 3.5 million units worldwide since 2015.
  • Private Division is currently listing eight job openings for its Seattle office, including a community manager for KSP. Kerbal Space Program 2 is due to be launched sometime in the next year.
