We thought the kitchen hijinks would settle down when former CEO John Legere packed up “Slow Cooker Sundays” and departed T-Mobile. But the Bellevue, Wash.-based wireless carrier is apparently hoping you saved room for dessert.

In another of its endless, magenta-infused promotions, T-Mobile was offering up a “Supercharged 5G Un-carrier Layer Cake” on Monday, promising a box of Betty Crocker cake mix to those who responded fast enough.

By early morning on the West Coast, the company announced it was “all out of batter.” If that seems a bit half baked, fans of the wireless carrier were encouraged to follow along on Twitter for more chances to win a box.

With a bowl full of baking puns stirred into to the marketing recipe, T-Mobile aimed to showcase its “layer cake” approach to 5G and low band, mid band and high band offerings. And, as always, T-Mobile took a swipe at the competition, calling 5G from AT&T and Verizon “a recipe for failure.”

The cake box shipped to GeekWire came with a crossword puzzle — written by T-Mobile CEO Mike Sievert and edited by Neville Ray, president of technology — to quiz recipients on how well they know 5G.

Ray said in a tweet Monday that the cake might be the most delicious thing he’s ever seen. Sorry, Legere.
