For the third straight year, Microsoft is the top-rated tech employer in the Seattle region according to the annual “Brand Health Report” from job search marketplace Hired.
Hired surveyed more than 4,100 tech professionals on its platform to learn which companies they want to work for in their respective city. The survey also asked what motivates candidates to jump ship and leave a current role.
Microsoft trailed only Netflix, GitHub, Google and Slack on Hired’s overall scoring chart, and easily outpaced Amazon. Among Seattle-area companies, Microsoft was tops over Nintendo, Tableau, Zillow Group, Redfin, Amazon, REI, Starbucks, Costco and Auth0.
As for “local candidate insights” in Seattle, 72% of tech talent said “featuring the projects and technology they’d get to work on is one of the most compelling things a recruiter can do to make them take a call.” Poor company culture ranked as the most important factor in Seattle talent’s decision to not take a job.
Hired once again asked tech workers to rank the most inspiring leaders, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk topped the list again. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos was third behind Google’s Sundar Pichai and Apple’s Tim Cook. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, who was third last year behind Musk and Bezos, fell off the list in 2020.
While tech talent continues to rank compensation as the top driver for accepting a job offer, it’s reassuring to see that 64% of survey respondents said a company’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) would have a strong or very strong impact on their decision to take a job. Nearly half (49%) of the tech talent Hired surveyed said providing transparent salary data for every role to ensure equitable pay is the most important thing employers can do in their commitment to DE&I.
