Seattle’s Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and its clinical-care partner, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, are receiving a $500,000 grant from Bank of America to promote COVID-19 testing efforts as well as measures to protect against the pandemic.

  • Some of the money will support Fred Hutch’s efforts to develop and evaluate rapid testing and point-of-care tests, to ensure that workers can return to their workplaces safely. Other funds will go toward the purchase of personal protective equipment and ultraviolet sterilization devices for Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.
  • “We’re honored to partner with Bank of America to accelerate our mission and drive our renowned scientists to better understand and eventually find a cure for COVID,” Thomas Lynch, Fred Hutch’s president and director, said in a news release. Nancy Davidson, president and executive director of SCCA, said she applauded Bank of America “for doing its part to keep our providers and patients safe.”
  • The grant is part of a $100 million global effort by Bank of America to support local communities in need. Since the effort was announced in March, Bank of America has awarded grants to 13 organizations in the Puget Sound region to fund emergency support services, affordable housing, food security and child care for front-line workers.
