— DocuSign’s chief information security officer Vanessa Pegueros has left the company. Pegueros previously served as SVP of enterprise information security at US Bank and was CISO at Expedia.
“I am driving to bring cyber expertise to the boardroom and help CISOs be more successful,” Pegueros told GeekWire in an email. “Currently, I am serving on the Carbon Black board and BECU Audit Committee. I am also focusing on very early stage startups leveraging AI and ML in the PNW working as a venture partner with Flying Fish Partners.”
A spokesperson for DocuSign said that Pegueros’ departure was part of a planned transition. “We do appreciate everything that Vanessa brought to the company, and we wish her all the very best for the future,” the company said in an email.
— Galen Ward, the founder of Seattle real estate search website Estately, announced on Twitter that he’s leaving the company.
“I’m taking the next year off to explore some new ideas, help startup founders, and travel,” he said.
Four years ago, the startup was acquired by Realogy, the real estate conglomerate that operates brands such as Century 21, Coldwell Banker and Sotheby’s International. Estately continued to operate as an independent company following the deal.
“I feel prepared to create an even bigger, better, more ambitious company next time around,” Ward said. “Particular areas of interest are decarbonization startups and tech startups where a combination of product, UX and marketing make for a transformative experience. The less obvious the better.”
— Zillow made two high-level hires in the company’s data and analytics group. Alan John was named vice president of data engineering, and Andrei Lopatenko is the new vice president of engineering for search.
John, who will be based in the Seattle office, previously led data and analytics teams at Nordstrom, Microsoft and Amazon. He’ll be leading the group that brings together all the data teams supporting Zillow Group’s products and analytics work.
Lopatenko formerly led search teams at Google, Apple, Walmart and eBay. He’s based out of San Francisco and responsible for Zillow Group’s core search backend systems and search science efforts.
— Entrepreneur Chris Lynch has left his gig with the Pentagon, where he was the director of Defense Digital Service (DDS). Lynch previously founded Seattle-based startups Thoughtful.co, North by Nine and FlyPaper.
Lynch helped lead the $10 billion JEDI cloud contract procurement process and the Hack the Pentagon program.
Brett Goldstein will succeed Lynch in the role. Goldstein was an early OpenTable employee who later joined the Chicago Police Department and rose through the public ranks to become chief data officer for the City of Chicago.
— Gaming veteran James Ohlen has been lured back to the industry he took a break from last year with an opportunity that was too good to refuse — he’ll be running a new studio based in Austin, Texas, for Wizards of the Coast, the Renton, Wash.-based creators of “Dungeons & Dragons” and “Magic: The Gathering.” Read more about his new gig here.
— National communications agency Bateman Group hired Matt Coolidge to lead the company’s newly-created Portland office. This marks Coolidge’s return to the Bateman Group, which he left in 2017 to co-found Civil, a media startup.
