That’s just one reason why we’re excited to present five experts in DevOps at the 2019 GeekWire Cloud Summit, scheduled for June 5th at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue. Historically, developers wrote software, and handed it off to operations engineers who then had to actually make that software run. The speed at which today’s software development teams are forced to move by business realities makes that separation of duties untenable, forcing information technology departments to work much more closely together than in the past. But that pace has also unlocked a lot of benefits; bug fixes and feature enhancements can be rolled out very quickly without layers of bureaucracy.
The five DevOps speakers we’ve invited to the Cloud Summit work at some of the biggest tech companies in the world as well as some of its most promising startups, and have a wealth of experience and insight that will help attendees understand the best way to implement DevOps in their own organizations.
- Tara Hernandez, engineering manager for Google Cloud, was an early proponent of continuous integration, a key DevOps strategy that requires developers to submit their Ncode to a central repository several times a day.
- Nell Shamrell-Harrington of Chef, a Cloud Summit veteran, just oversaw a seismic shift in Chef’s product-development strategy in making all of its code open source.
- Illya Chekrygin, founding member and lead engineer at Seattle startup Upbound, led a project at HBO that moved its streaming service onto Amazon Web Services and Kubernetes.
- Lee Atchison of New Relic has been overseeing the infrastructure monitoring company’s cloud strategy for the last seven years.
- Idit Levine, co-founder and CEO of Solo.io, is working on new technologies that will help companies take advantage of new tools like Kubernetes and serverless computing.
