Amazon has doubled up on its commitment to Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia, as a new $1 million gift from the tech giant to the Wikimedia Endowment was announced on Monday.

The gift comes about a year after Amazon first gave $1 million to the organization.

The fund is dedicated to sustaining Wikipedia and other free knowledge projects over the long term and the campaign has raised $42 million since its launch in January 2016.

“We are grateful to Amazon for its continued collaboration and support in ensuring access to information and free and open knowledge, for today and tomorrow’s generations,” Jimmy Wales, founder of Wikipedia, said in a news release.

Amazon’s digital brain, Alexa, uses Wikipedia as one of many sources to answer questions. Amazon has previously said the Alexa team and the Wikimedia Foundation share a similar goal: making it easier to locate and share information.

Lisa Seitz Gruwell, Wikimedia’s chief advancement officer, said the gift signals Amazon’s commitment to ensuring Wikipedia, created in 2001, will thrive for years to come.

“We’re thrilled to see Amazon continue to invest in the long-term vision where every single human being can freely share in the sum of all knowledge,” Gruwell added.
