I’ve never solved a Rubiks’ Cube. I’ve definitely never attempted to solve one after jumping out of an airplane. Maybe that’s why I’ve never created a viral video, either.

For geeks who grew up on the colorful puzzle toy of the 1980s, videos of people solving them in rapid fashion are a mainstay. Even robots have figured out how to get all the colors to line up in just seconds.

But a new Instagram video from the sporty folks at Red Bull stopped me mid-scroll on Wednesday night.

Professional skydiver, base jumper, stuntman, wing suit pilot (and probably more things that wouldn’t fit in an Instagram profile) Jeff Provenzano is shown — via helmet cam, duh — jumping from a plane with the Cube in his hands.

Positioned in the sky on his back as he free falls, Provenzano spins the sides attempting to match the colors. I’ve been less relaxed at my kitchen table with an empty bottle of wine in front of me.

But sure enough, just as his parachute deploys, Provenzano appears to show off the solved puzzle. On his own post regarding the stunt, he said it wasn’t as easy as it looked.

“I tried solving a Rubik’s cube in the air. Not as easy as I thought it would be. It took several attempts and this was the best. I started it in the airplane and finished it in freefall.”
