The back-and-forth battle for awards season supremacy among the streaming services shifted back to Netflix on Sunday night at the 90th Academy Awards.
“Icarus,” a film that helped expose widespread doping among Russian athletes, won the Best Documentary Feature for Netflix.

The service was shut out in four other categories in which it was nominated for the film “Mudbound.” Mary J. Blige was nominated for Best Supporting Actress and the film got a nod for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Song (“Mighty River”) and Best Achievement in Cinematography (Rachel Morrison). Morrison was the first woman ever nominated in that category.
Amazon, which was returning to the Oscars after winning three awards last year, was denied in the one category in which it was nominated Sunday night.

“The Big Sick,” a comedy about a Pakistan-born comedian who falls for a grad student, was up for Best Original Screenplay for writers Kumail Najiani and Emily Gordon.
The film competed against screenplays for “Lady Bird,” “The Shape of Water,” “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” and “Get Out,” with the latter taking the prize.
