Happy Holidays! As the year comes to a close, it’s all about fun until everyone gets back down to business in January. Hope you have some time off to work on that Raspberry Pi project you’ve been meaning to tackle or catch up on the recent video and board games, of which there are many. If you’ve got kids, a great way to keep them occupied is to visit the Pacific Science Center. You can squeeze in some education along with the fun.

If board games are something you or your family enjoys, you might want to check out GeekGirlCon’s board game night. The Seattle-based convention hosts board game nights at Wayward Coffee House twice a month. You can bring your own games or learn to play some new ones with other geeks in a family-friendly inclusive environment. The next event is on December 28.

After the new year rolls in, there are two pop culture conventions happening on the same weekend in Portland. The Heroes and Villains Fanfest and Fandom PDX are both scheduled for January 5 to 6. If you can make the trek down to Portland, both of these conventions are a place to celebrate fandoms of all types, including movies, tv, comic books, and games.

Here are a few other events happening in the next couple of weeks:

  • Science in the City: Are Designer Babies a Reality? A talk about genetic engineering at Pacific Science Center in Seattle; 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 27.
  • Sunday Coffee Break: A free coding meetup for experienced and new developers to learn from each other at KEXP in Seattle; 12 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30.
  • Employee Stock Options & Equity Incentives for Startups: A talk about how to keep your employees happy and productive at the University of Washington Comotion Innovation Center in Seattle; 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8.
  • CES: The biggest electronics show in the country at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas; Tuesday, Jan. 8 to Friday, Jan. 11.
