YouTube users love Wiz Khalifa. Or the late actor Paul Walker. Or both, it seems.
The video for “See You Again,” from the soundtrack for “Furious 7,” is now the most viewed video of all time on YouTube. With 2,897,579,000 views (as of Tuesday), the hit has eclipsed “Gangnam Style,” the infectious track uploaded by South Korean singer Psy on July 15, 2012.
“See You Again,” which features vocalist Charlie Puth alongside the hip-hop star Khalifa, was uploaded on April 6, 2015. It serves as a tribute to Walker, the star of the “Fast and the Furious” film series until his death in a car crash 2013.
Puth tweeted about his original hope for how many views any video he made might get when he joined YouTube a decade ago:
For the record, I joined @YouTube in 2007 hoping to make a video that would reach 10,000 views. Just heard about See You Again…wow.

According to Billboard, YouTube had to rewrite its code to accommodate the the maximum number of views a video could achieve, thanks to Psy — who was the first to record 1 billion views on a video — and “See You Again.” Initially, YouTube could only store 2,147,483,647 views on one video, Billboard said, but “Gangnam Style” passed that in December 2014, forcing the video streaming site to upgrade to a 64-bit integer (which means you could technically stream “See You Again” more than 9 quintillion times).
