Construction is a booming business in the Pacific Northwest, and two companies that make cloud-based construction software are becoming one, with Portland-based Viewpoint acquiring Seattle’s Dexter & Chaney for an undisclosed amount.
Viewpoint plans to integrate Dexter & Chaney’s Spectrum software, which helps construction companies manage things like payroll and accounting, into its own lineup of construction-oriented project-management software, it said in a press release. Viewpoint has around 700 employees, according to its site, and Dexter & Chaney has about 100 employees according to a company representative.
Both companies are in their mid-30s, which is not an age you see very often in enterprise software. With cranes dominating the skylines of both Portland and Seattle, the construction management software market seems like a good place to be.
Viewpoint is owned by Bain Capital, which acquired a majority stake in the company back in 2014. Pamlico Capital took a majority stake in Dexter & Chaney back in 2015.
