Amazon has acquired GameSparks, a UK company that builds backend tools for developers behind marquee game franchises such as Assassin’s Creed and Final Fantasy, according to a report from The Telegraph.

The Seattle-based tech titan has been cozy with GameSparks since the startup launched in 2013. It’s highlighted on Amazon’s website as a case study for Amazon Web Services, the company’s cloud computing arm. GameSparks builds tools on top of AWS infrastructure to make it easier for developers to take their games to market.

“The technical leadership at GameSparks had been pioneer users of cloud providers including AWS for years,” the case study reads. “From inception, they believed that the cloud was the best option to launch the platform due to its speed, low cost, breadth of features, and security.”

Terms of the deal have not been disclosed. The acquisition is part of Amazon’s broader strategy to move further into the video games market.

In February, Amazon announced plans to sell games directly on Twitch, the game streaming platform that Amazon bought for nearly $1 billion in 2014.

Since the acquisition, Amazon has been growing its Amazon Game Studios team and in September, announced its first games with deep Twitch integration. One of the games even allows users to wager loyalty points that can be exchanged for in-game rewards — effectively moving Amazon into eSports betting.
