A Microsoft program manager who is leaving the company for a new job didn’t just update his LinkedIn profile on Thursday, he wrote and performed a song and released a music video to pay tribute to the region he had come to love.

Jens Eggert was focused on photography through his work for the past several years, first at the Swedish startup Scalado, then at Nokia and Microsoft, working with different apps, programs and services.

His new job will turn his attention to music, another of his passions, as he joins Jabra GN Audio as senior software product manager at the Copenhagen, Denmark-based makers of headphones and audio equipment.

Eggert’s video, performed under the name Färdinand, is for a song simply titled “Seattle,” and it includes 3 1/2 minutes of snapshots from around the city and the Northwest, from Pike Place Market to the Microsoft campus to Mount Rainier National Park. The song is a grungey tribute of sorts, with Eggert screaming, “Seattle, you will always be a part of me.”

“Playing and writing music has always been my ‘yoga,’ and I never really thought about releasing anything I’ve written (there’s so much great music out there and I’m not an artist),” Eggert wrote on a website he put together for his departure. “However with the tragic death of one of my heroes (Chris Cornell of Soundgarden) a few weeks ago, I wrote and recorded a song which is a tribute to everything that’s great with Seattle (Microsoft, Soundgarden, rock music, the nature, coffee etc.) and also my ‘goodbye’ to the city I truly love.”

Eggert said all of the images were captured by him with Nokia and Microsoft phones and the video was made with Microsoft Movie Maker.
