A debate over the proper stacking order of the meat, lettuce, cheese and tomato on the hamburger emoji has reached the highest levels of Google, as CEO Sundar Pichai promised to drop everything on Monday and address the meaty matter.

Author Thomas Baekdal got the internet all fired up over the weekend when he tweeted a side-by-side comparison of the Apple and Google burger emojis, saying that a discussion was needed about where the cheese should go.

Apple’s is (correctly) placed on top of the meat, while Google’s is beneath the patty.

The tweet generated thousands of retweets and replies, because debating food and the proper way to consume it — even in emoji form — ranks right up there with sports and politics, apparently.

By Saturday night, Pichai weighed in, saying that Google would address the stacking — if people could agree on the correct way to do it.

Other tech giants couldn’t help but take a seat at the emoji food-debate table. Microsoft’s Scott Hanselman said the Redmond, Wash.-based company’s leadership in the space was being conveniently ignored.

And Facebook’s Kaspar Klippgen said the social media platform has things figured out, although there is some bun design left to be debated between Facebook and Messenger.
