Count Apple among the tech giants paying big bucks to secure original programming. The Wall Street Journal reported that the company will spend $1 billion to produce original content over the next year, including up to 10 TV shows. Apple has already come out with a few of its own shows this year — Carpool Karaoke; Planet of the Apps — but this represents a full-on content play that pits the company against others like Amazon, Netflix, and HBO, which spent $2 billion on content last year.
