Uber has arrived in the Tri-Cities.
Folks in Kennewick, West Richland, and unincorporated parts of Benton and Franklin Counties can now hail an Uber ride. Service for riders in Yakima County will launch Friday.
“With the addition of Uber, we’re pleased residents and visitors have even more options to get around our city,” Kennewick Mayor Steve Young said in a statement. “Multi-modal transportation is important for the sustainability of Kennewick, and Uber’s forward-thinking technology and business model is one more amenity that supports Kennewick’s top priorities of community safety and high quality of life.”
Uber won’t operate in Richland, Pasco or at the Tri-Cities Airport because of existing city and port laws.
Uber, which operates in more than 540 cities worldwide, first launched in Seattle in 2011. The company, valued at more than $60 billion, also services areas east of Seattle and Everett, and operates in Tacoma and Vancouver.
