Nissan chairs

In recognition of your co-workers who just can’t seem to push their chairs back into a conference room table or their own desks, Nissan has introduced a self-parking office chair that takes all the hard work out of being neat and considerate.

A Nissan video promoting the technology shows workers clapping to compel the chairs to return to a “home” position. The high-tech, robotic furniture is controlled by motion cameras which transmit information telling the chair where to park itself. There’s a behind-the-scenes video that reveals how it all works.

Before you try to order a dozen for your workplace or meeting space, the chairs were simply designed to promote Nissan’s parking assist technology, aimed at making the automaker’s LEAF electric car able to park itself. Fortune reports that the nifty feature probably won’t be available until maybe 2018.

In the meantime, don’t the chairs moving around by themselves in the office remind you a bit of the creepy kitchen scene in “Poltergeist”? Little Carol Anne didn’t even need to clap.
