John Legere
T-Mobile’s John Legere, the highest-rated Seattle-area CEO according to Glassdoor.

Leaders from technology companies landed in 18 of the 50 spots on Glassdoor’s annual list of the Highest Rated CEOs when the job search website revealed its Employees’ Choice Awards on Tuesday night.

Glassdoor said that its list is based solely on the input of employees who voluntarily provide anonymous feedback. Workers complete a company review on whether they approve or disapprove of their CEO, along with insight into their job, work environment and employer over the past year.

Four CEOs from the Seattle region made the cut:

  • No. 12: T-Mobile’s John Legere, 95% approval
  • No. 21: Expedia’s Dara Khosrowshahi, 95% approval
  • No. 23: Zillow’s Spencer Rascoff, 94% approval
  • No. 45: Slalom Consulting’s Brad Jackson, 92% approval

The list of 18 tech leaders included seven of the top 10 positions from the overall 50:

  • No. 2: Ultimate Software’s Scott Scherr, 99% approval
  • No. 4: Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, 97% approval
  • No. 5: LinkedIn’s Jeff Weiner, 97% approval
  • No. 6: Salesforce’s Marc Benioff, 97% approval
  • No. 7: Google’s Sundar Sichai, 96% approval
  • No. 8: Apple’s Tim Cook, 96% approval
  • No. 10: Red Hat’s Jim Whitehurst, 96% approval
  • No. 15: MathWorks’ Jack Little, 95% approval
  • No. 18: Kronos Incorporated’s Aron J. Ain, 95% approval
  • No. 20: Adobe’s Shantanu Narayen, 95% approval
  • No. 21: Expedia’s Dara Khosrowshahi, 95% approval

  • No. 32: Workday’s Aneel Bhusri, 94% approval
  • No. 37: NVIDIA’s Jen-Hsun Huang, 93% approval

Dara Khosrowshahi
Expedia CEO Dara Khosrowshahi.

“Trust comes with transparency,” Bellevue, Wash.-based Expedia’s Dara Khosrowshahi told Glassdoor. “When things are going well at the company, it’s all good, but when things aren’t going so well, you just have to say it. You can’t use corporate-speak, you can’t pull your punches, you have to lay it all out. Only then do you get real trust from your workforce. And — you know what? They want to help. They want to make a difference. And chances are, you’ll be surprised at how they’ll unite with you and kick some ass.” (Listen to Khosrowshahi’s recent interview on the GeekWire radio show.)

Using almost anything but corporate-speak is probably one of the reasons why T-Mobile’s Legere placed so high. The colorful CEO is known for speaking his mind about business and his competitors — especially on Twitter.

The top spot on the list went to Bain & Company’s Bob Bechek (99% approval). Ultimate Software’s Scott Scherr followed at No. 2 (99% approval) and No. 3 was McKinsey & Company’s Dominic Barton (99% approval).

Four women made the top 50 this year: In-N-Out Burger’s Lynsi Snyder, No. 17; Staffmark’s Lesa Francis, No. 28; Enterprise Holdings’ Pamela Nicholson, No. 31; and Deloitte’s Cathy Engelbert, No. 41.

“The Glassdoor Employees’ Choice Awards honor CEOs that stand out for having gained the support and approval of their workforce — no easy task for any leader,” said Robert Hohman, Glassdoor CEO and co-founder. “I am proud to expand these awards to new markets as incredible leaders are found around the world and are not limited by boundaries or borders. I congratulate all of the winners on this significant achievement.”

Correction: A previous version of this article listed Deloitte CEO Cathy Engelbert at No. 42. It has been updated to reflect her correct position.
