Parents questioning the “pop star or princess” problem for girls came up with a great solution — a card game that pays tribute to great women in science.

Created by Anouk Charles and Benoit Fries from Montreal, they write on their Indiegogo page: “We’re just parents looking for inspiring role models for our 7-year-old daughter. We realized that we all know singers, actresses, etc., but in the end very little about the great women of science.”

The Women in Science cards include short bios of great women in history, and the couple commissioned an artist friend to do the illustrations. They say the rules are simple enough for a child to start playing within five minutes: Each player gets six cards, but the goal is collect four cards of the same color to create a “lab.” The first player to make three labs wins.

They met their initial goal of $3,000, and funding now stands at just over $4,100. The makers say if they reach $5,000, they will add six more cards to the packs. For $10, they’ll send you a PDF so you can print your own DIY kit, but $20 gets you the real set.
