One of the Army’s newest drones, the Shadow, is now being tested in Eastern Washington.

The King 5 report above gives us a look at the Shadow drone, basically a small airplane. Soldiers at the Joint Base Lewis McChord are responsible for taking it out for those test drives.

The Shadow is built to fly over zones “too hot for piloted aircraft” and will be used mostly for surveillance and taking images. It will eventually be deployed from Apache helicopters and can go from zero to 70 mph in a second.

As Popular Science reported last spring, however, the Shadow is capable of carrying a couple bombs and has been tested in that capacity.

For those worried about the government watching you, the Army testers say to relax. The testing grounds are over restricted areas, like the base, and unpopulated areas of the Yakima Training Center.
