Math geeks might want to head outside today after work to be part of one of the most famous equations of all time — the Pythagorean Theorem.

It’s part of a celebratory event being put on by New York-based National Museum of Mathematics, or MoMath, and the Pacific Science Center.

“Attendees will literally embody a stunning, multi-color illustration of the Pythagorean Theorem, which states that every right triangle has side lengths satisfying the formula a2 + b2 = c2,” according to statement from MoMath.

The event, “MathHappening: Pythagorize Seattle,” is expected to draw about 600 people of all ages to Lake Union Park. Event goers will create the world’s largest human proof near the historic Triangle Pub, which was selected for its measurements, approximately 8 meters x 15 meters x 17 meters, or the date 8-17-15, which aligns with the theorem.

MoMath and Pacific Science Center organizers are hoping this event becomes the largest math demonstration in Seattle. It all starts at 6 p.m.

Visit MoMath’s site to register now, the first 578 attendees get a free T-shirt, and a few area restaurants are offering specials and discounts to those with the shirts.
