HaikuDeckNewLogoSlideTypeHaiku Deck is launching a new cloud-based service that automatically creates presentations, fully designed and with appropriate graphics, from existing outlines or draft PowerPoint files.

Called Haiku Deck Zuru, the subscription service uses what the company calls “artificial intelligence and machine learning” to streamline presentation creation. The company says Zuru starts with a customer’s Evernote, PowerPoint or Keynote file, identifies keywords, recommends images and fonts, and then optimizes slide layouts and creates a finished presentation.

“Haiku Deck Zuru is made possible by the massive trove of data collected over the past 3 years,” the Seattle-bases startup said in announcing the new service, “as Haiku Deck’s highly engaged global community has performed millions and millions of image searches to create more than 3 million presentations.”

Because of that data, including image search terms and images selected, Haiku Deck says the web application will “intelligently predict” the most important concept that needs to be illustrated on each screen. The final result can be edited further in the existing free Haiku Deck iPad or web apps, or exported as an editable PowerPoint file.

Kevin Leneway, co-founder and CTO of Haiku Deck, put it confidently and succinctly. “We can save people so much time,” he says. “And we can prevent so many really awful presentations.”

CEO Adam Tratt added:

“This is AI that uses the power of tens of millions of slides created by millions and millions of Haiku Deck users to deliver a great result automatically. If you’re starting with an outline or an existing PowerPoint deck, we give you a presentation in seconds. In the future we’ll support other structured content too, like email messages, blog posts, news articles, wikipedia entries, and more.”

Subscriptions to Haiku Deck Zuru will be available this Spring at an introductory price of $30 per year, which Haiku Deck says will normally be $60 per year.
