Rock Band was such a groundbreaker when it first came out. The idea of a game that allowed you to play and belt out your favorite hits from the comfort of your own living room was genius.

And then? Those plastic instruments were ditched, left to collect dust in our garages and basements.

Now, Harmonix announces that it’s back: Rock Band 4 is coming this year for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

“With Rock Band 4, we’re doubling down on the energy and excitement of playing music live with your friends,” said Harmonix CEO Steve Janiak in a statement. “Focusing on the core experience that our fans have told us they love allows us to evolve established gameplay in meaningful ways that we can’t wait to share with everyone later this year.”

Harmonix states that Rock Band 4 will support over 2,000 tracks released since the 2007 launch of the original Rock Band, but there might be a few glitches. The company is working with Sony and Microsoft to make sure old purchases are still available on new consoles, but it will only work if you’ve stayed with the same brand, so no PlayStation to Xbox crossover. They also aren’t guaranteeing that every old song will be available upon Rock Band 4‘s launch.

New guitars and drum sets are also in the works, and they hope that most of the old ones will work, too, but not all will, including the “keytarist” from Rock Band 3.

More details will be released by May, and Harmonix plans to show off Rock Band 4 at E3 in June. Until then, party on.
