Imagine a future where you can see how furniture looks in your space before investing in a trip to IKEA?

That might not be too far off. A new iPad app called Rooomy intends to take the guesswork out of decorating.

Created by developer NedSense LOFT, the app is primarily intended for real estate professionals so they can virtually stage rooms of on-sale properties.

“With integrated real estate listings, Rooomy serves as a realistic way in which potential renters and buyers can visualize their designs, by placing real products in the actual properties that they are considering living in, reducing some of the difficult decisions that are involved when choosing a new home,” states the iTunes description.

But it also has potential to be useful for everyday decorators, too.

According to the iTunes description, upload any photo to create your room in 3D. Then, using its database of about 500 products, according to TechCrunch, from retailers like Design Within Reach (the app makers plan to “expand to over 6,000 pieces” within a month), you can arrange items around the room, which are then stored in your “Ideabook.” The products are linked back to the retailers’ sites, too.

This is the first incarnation of the app that only works in iOS 8 and up. The developers state they will be adding other platforms soon, but a web-based version is not planned at this time.

While this NedSense LOFT video is from a couple years back, it gives a good idea of how the new iPad app will work:
