Who says print is dead?
The iconic roots music magazine, No Depression, known for its thoughtful articles, reviews and gorgeous photography of the beloved artists who fire up the stages at festivals like Austin City Limits, is staging a comeback. A print comeback.
The magazine has a Kickstarter campaign to help fund production and print costs to bring back the print version of the magazine this fall.
Launched in 1995, No Depression lasted in print for 13 years before going online only. Now, to celebrate its 20th anniversary, they want to relaunch the print version, rejuvenated in part by the magazine’s acquisition by San Francisco-based company FreshGrass, which supports grassroots music through events, awards and more.
“We still miss that physical publication sometimes, and we know a lot of you do too. With the new energy and opportunities we have as part of FreshGrass — a festival and roots music foundation that took the reins of ND in 2014 — we’re ready to get back to our own roots and return to print,” states the Kickstarter campaign. “And what better time to do so than this year, the 20th anniversary of when the whole thing got started?”
A pledge of $20 will secure you the September 2015 magazine, which will only be sold through Kickstarter. One of the best parts of crowdfunding the print? No ads.
So far, they have just over $22,000 toward their $40,000 goal with 52 days to go. You can follow along with the hashtag #nd20 to see artists posting their love for No Depression on Twitter.
