Amazon Cloud Drive2

Amazon has released a new iPhone app that enables people to connect to their Cloud Drives while on the go.

Amazon has been offering a pared down version of the app called Amazon Photos Cloud Drive on iOS since 2013. But the new app, launched late last week, takes it a step further, allowing people to manage their entire Cloud Drive, including documents, videos, spreadsheets, presentations and photos. Users will be able to view these items, but they won’t be able to edit them, TechCrunch reports.

The app has been available on Android since June, and also comes built into the Fire Phone, Fire TV and Fire Tablets. It also has desktop versions for Mac and PC.

Amazon’s Cloud Drive competes with all the big guys in the space, including Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft One Drive and others. But without the ability to edit, the app may be not as useful as some people would hope. It’s also worth noting that you’ll probably want to keep the standalone photo app for now because the new one doesn’t support automatic upload from your camera roll.

Where Amazon has got the competition beat, it’s price. It gives Amazon Prime members free photo back-up in the cloud as long as they continue to pay the $99 annual fee. In addition, it offers unlimited photo storage, and 5 GB for videos and files, for $1 a month, or unlimited everything for $60 a year.
