Screenshot-CanvasFiftyThree launched a major update for its Paper drawing app for the iPad today. Version 1.6.1 brings a completely redesigned interface to the company’s popular app that brings it in line with Apple’s design principles for iOS 7 while still keeping the same feel that users are familiar with. According to a blog post from the company, which has an office in Seattle, they’ve “polished every pixel” in an attempt to make a version of the app that looks and feels better.

For users who want more precise lines, using the app’s Zoom tool will also shrink the default size of lines created with a number of tools, so it’s a lot easier to add fine detail to a work. In addition, users can control the dot size for the app’s draw and erase tools by holding down their finger, so it’s possible to easily create large circles.

While that may not sound like much, it’s something Paper had been dearly missing. The only way for people to draw circles was to swirl their finger or stylus around until they made an appropriately sized shape. As anyone who has ever taken a standardized test knows, that’s harder than it sounds.

The redesign has been a long time coming, considering that Apple announced iOS 7 in June of last year, but FiftyThree had been occupied with turning out its Pencil iPad stylus, which launched in November, and is designed to give iPad users more control while working in Paper.

The Apple Design Award-winning app was back in the spotlight earlier this month when FiftyThree CEO Georg Petschnigg called on Facebook to rename its new Paper news reading app for iPhone. FiftyThree filed for a trademark on “Paper” last month.

Paper is available for free on the iOS App Store.
