amazonstudent21Amazon is handing out college scholarships in an effort to have more people sign up for its Amazon Student program.

amazonstudentThe Seattle company today announced that it will award 50 full-time undergraduate students with $5,000 for tuition and another $500 to spend on textbooks on Amazon. The scholarships will be awarded to students who “demonstrate extraordinary ability in leadership and innovative thinking.”

One key requirement is that you have to be a member of Amazon Student, a discounted version of the Amazon Prime program that offers free two-day shipping, deals exclusively for students, and other benefits to people who pay $49 per year (half the price of a normal Prime membership).

Applications will be accepted through November 20, and finalists will be picked based on GPA, community involvement, and leadership experience. Students must either be in a four-year accredited college or university this fall, or plan to attend in fall 2015. Semifinalists will need to submit an essay, and winners will be notified next July.
