zynga11When Zynga closed its New York office, home to OMGPOP, earlier this summer, there was some question as to what would happen to the properties that used Now we know: OMGPOP’s website is shutting down for good next month, with four of its games getting the axe at the end of August.

The studio, which Zynga bought for 200 million dollars in 2012, was supposed to boost Zynga’s mobile cachet with hits similar to Draw Something, which was the leading social game on mobile at one time. As it turns out, OMGPOP wasn’t able to keep turning out hits, so Zynga turned it loose.

The closures are taking place “to make way for new and exciting gaming opportunities,” according to a post to Zynga’s support site.

Draw Something, Draw Something 2 and Draw My Thing, some of OMGPOP’s most popular properties, will still be available. Zynga will be shutting down Cupcake Corner, Gem Rush, Pool World Champ and Snoops on August 31, with no word on the fate of other OMGPOP titles after that. The OMGPOP site itself will close on September 30.

This is yet another shrinking of the company’s business under former Xbox head Don Mattrick, who took over the CEO position earlier this summer. Under Mattrick, Zynga has been slimming down its business, recently abandoning its attempts to get cleared for real-money online gambling in the U.S.

Previously on GeekWire: Zynga continues to struggle, says it’s no longer pursuing online gambling in U.S.
