While grey skies hang over San Francisco, thousands of developers have crammed into a black auditorium in Moscone West to hear the latest news from Apple. The company is kicking off its 24th annual Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) with a keynote to announce new products and changes to its mobile and desktop operating systems.
To open the keynote, Apple CEO Tim Cook unleashed a torrent of statistics about iOS, WWDC, and OS X. Here are some of the most interesting:
71 – How many seconds it took for tickets to WWDC to sell out.
Two thirds – the fraction of new developers at WWDC.
975,000 – The number of apps in the iOS App Store.
50 billion – The number of app downloads from the iOS App Store.
575 million – The number of Apple accounts.
10 billion – The amount of money (in dollars) Apple has paid out to App Store developers.
72 million – The size of the Mac install base.
15% – The average annual growth rate of Apple’s Mac sales.
28 million – The number of copies of OS 10.8 “Mountain Lion” has sold.
