zeldawiiuThis week at the 30th Chaos Communication Congress, a small group of hackers figured out a way to reverse engineer a Wii U GamePad to allow streaming of PC games directly to the controller.

The hack is pretty neat, which manipulates the communication between the GamePad and its host controller, allowing gamers to play PC games on the GamePad. We’ve seen similar hacks before, but this appears to be the first time someone has streamed a non-Wii game directly to the GamePad.

At 48:20 in the video below, the crowd applauds after the group demonstrated the hack by playing a GameCube emulated version of The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker on the Wii U GamePad.

The hackers admit that the project is still quite buggy, but they have plans to pair other tablets with the Wii U and port the project to Android, Windows and OS X. You can check out the group’s 64 slides here, or watch the video below:
