Screen Shot 2013-07-03 at 4.55.44 PMIf you want to take a patriotic field trip to Monticello, the residence of former president Thomas Jefferson, you can now do it without even getting out of your chair.

With the help of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation, Google managed to get Monticello all set up with Street View. You can now take a virtual walk around the grounds, or explore the inside of Jefferson’s residence, all from Google Maps.

This comes as Google begins a campaign to bring Street View “Trekker” backpacks to places that can’t be reached by the company’s signature cars.

Sadly, it’s hard to make out some of the finer details, like text on Jefferson’s many maps and the titles of books on his bookshelves, but the view is certainly enough to get a sense of the big picture.

What historic place should Google get on Street View next?
