dayoneAmazon is making another move into the publishing space today with the announcement of its own weekly literary journal that will feature one short fiction piece and one poem per week.

Called “Day One,” it sure seems like Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos had a little something to do with this new product. First of all, “Day One,” is a mantra Bezos preaches at Amazon as a reminder to employees and investors that the company constantly remains in development and innovation mode (it’s also the name of a few buildings at Amazon’s headquarters in Seattle).

In addition, Bezos is a fan of the packaged, quick-read newsletter-like format. In this article outlining reasons why the Amazon founder invested in Business Week, it notes how Bezos likes “short, well-written” e-mail newsletters.

The first issue of “Day One,” is out today and not surprisingly, only available in digital format. An annual subscription costs $19.99, but Amazon is offering it 50 percent off that price for a limited time.

Amazon recently announced that Larry Kirshbaum, hired in 2011 to head up the company’s the company’s Amazon Publishing division in New York, plans to leave the company this January.
