It seems like only yesterday when the only way to take pictures was to buy a big, bulky and expensive piece of equipment.

Now, everyone with a smartphone is a photographer and We Are Juxt is out to show the world the beauty created by mobile devices.

We Are Juxt is a Seattle-based global community of mobile photographers — MoPho’s, for short — and artists that hosts gallery shows, mobile arts workshops, and partners with community groups on photo walks around the Puget Sound. As part of its one-year anniversary, the group is putting on its seventh show on mobile photography from Jan. 3 — Feb. 5 at Seattle’s Zeitgeist Coffee called The Darkroom Series V2.0.

This will be the second-ever Darkroom Series, a free exhibit showcasing photos taken on smartphones by people in Seattle and the Puget Sound. It shows how mobile devices are not just phones anymore, but legitimate cameras and darkrooms thanks to the bevy of photo-editing apps now available.

Juxt was founded last year to cultivate and foster art created through technology. There are 45 contributors to the site who are building a community around the Seattle area.

There will be a opening ceremony on Jan. 3 with a live DJ during Seattle’s First Thursdays Art Walk. You can attend a closing ceremony on Jan. 26 at 2 p.m. for a photowalk/shootout through Pioneer Square. There will be a Q&A with the photographers about their photographs, processes, and inspirations.

Here’s a quick video recapping the first Darkroom Series event:
