Trending: Jeff Bezos, can you take my return? Inside one of the most unusual Amazon annual meetings ever

If you enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner yesterday, own a smartphone and are active on social media, chances are you snapped a few photos and shared them across your networks.

That happened in record-breaking fashion on Instagram yesterday, as the growing photo-sharing community saw over 10 million photos with Thanksgiving-related words in their captions. From about 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., more than 200 photos were being shared per second.

It was the busiest day ever for Instagram, the Facebook-owned company that continues to pick up momentum with over 100 million users. Thursday’s big day broke the previous record of 1.3 million photos on the day Hurricane Sandy hit.

Instagram isn’t just gaining traction among friends and family. Businesses have taken notice and a recent study from Seattle-based social media analytics startup Simply Measured showed 54-percent of the top 100 brands on Instagram.

And that wasn’t the only online hub celebrating big traffic numbers this week. Seattle-based enjoyed its biggest Thanksgiving ever as a record-breaking 7.9 million cooks worldwide visited the site the day before Thanksgiving. Not surprisingly, smartphones had a lot to do with that. Mobile devices accounted for 12 million visits to the week leading up to Thanksgiving Day, a 97 percent increase over the same period last year.

These impressive statistics can only make you wonder: What kind of records will Christmas and New Years bring?

UPDATE, 2 p.m.: Fixed the “200 photos” stat to 200 per second, not minute.
