Bob Muglia, the former Microsoft Server & Tools president, is joining Juniper Networks as executive vice president of its Software Solutions Division, the Sunnyvale, Calif. company announced today. Muglia’s departure from Microsoft was announced in January, marking the latest in a series of high-profile executive exits from the Redmond company.

He’s also the latest high-profile executive to shuttle between the two companies. Kevin Johnson, Juniper’s CEO, was formerly president of what was then known as Microsoft’s Platforms & Services Division.

Former Windows executive Brad Brooks joined Juniper in January. And Stephen Elop was Juniper’s CEO before joining Microsoft, which he later left to become CEO of Nokia.

Johnson says in today’s news release, “We are excited to have a leader of Bob’s caliber coming on board to lead Juniper’s software initiatives, and I’m confident that his vision, management savvy and technical expertise will bring tremendous value to our organization.”

Microsoft veteran Satya Nadella previously replaced Muglia as president of the Server & Tools business. The server division’s revenue growth last quarter was one of the factors helping Microsoft overcome lackluster sales of Windows PCs.
