Google’s crowdsourced real-time traffic app Waze is adding another kind of alert: Amber alerts.

Waze has announced it will integrate Amber alerts as they’re redistributed by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. It plans to scan the U.S. for Amber alerts every ten minutes, then display them in the relevant geographic area — and only when a user’s vehicle has been completely stopped for ten seconds.

The missing child’s photo, and related vehicle model, make and license plate could be displayed, along with a “More Information” link.

“We hope the addition of AMBER alerts to Waze will make a significant contribution to safety and awareness for children and parents across communities everywhere,” a Waze blog post said.

Meanwhile, Google has decided that Waze (which it purchased in 2013) will be available for pre-install on Android smartphones. Rather than bundling Waze fully into Google Maps, as some had expected, Waze will be a Google Mobile Service option.

In a statement, Waze’s Julie Mossler explained it “is the next step to become a platform that connects communities of citizens with the aim of promoting safer roads. OEMs and carriers now have the ability to help local markets to become connected cities overnight. “
