The much anticipated online gaming service for the popular Nintendo Switch has a start date: Sept. 18.
Nintendo plans to give more details about Nintendo Switch Online at an event tomorrow. But we do know that the service will enable online play, cloud game saving and more. Nintendo Switch Online players will also get to enjoy 20 classic Nintendo games, with more to come.
The online service represents the next major step for the smash hit Switch, which competes with Microsoft’s Xbox consoles and Sony PlayStation. Both have offered online services for years, but at a much costlier price. Xbox Live Gold and PlayStation Plus both cost $59.99 for a year-long subscription, while Nintendo Switch Online is available for $19.99 per year for an individual or $34.99 for families.
Nintendo Switch has been a massive success, pushing the company’s profits up 500 percent in the last fiscal year. In July, Nintendo disclosed that it was closing in on 20 million Switch units sold.
