Self-professed “big Star Wars fan” Bill Gates got a lesson in how the iconic sci-fi series can be used to help explain civil rights in the United States when he met with 2016 Washington State Teacher of the Year Nate Bowling.

In a post on his Gates Notes blog, the Microsoft co-founder uses a video of his discussion with Bowling, about the original film trilogy, to demonstrate how effective teachers can manage to make subject matter relevant to students.

Clever animated overlays on the video provide the fun part as Gates and Bowling share the screen with light sabers, X-wing starfighters, TIE fighters and AT-AT Walkers. Bowling even takes on Yoda ears toward the end as Gates is cloaked in an Obi-Wan Kenobi-style robe.

Check out the video for Bowling’s analogy, and read more about Gates’ views on education and what he learned from Bowling.
