It looks like Skype-pocalype may be almost over, about six hours after Microsoft’s video calling service went down for users across the globe.
Microsoft says it has figured out the problem and it’s working on fixing things now.
I was finally able to log into two different accounts around 9 a.m. this morning, but most of my contacts are still showing up as offline. I was able to send text messages to a friend, but we ran into bugs and couldn’t connect for a video call.
This still isn’t exactly what users are looking for, but it’s progress. About an hour ago I couldn’t sign in at all.
Microsoft says the outage didn’t affect Skype for Business, which many enterprise clients rely on, but plenty of consumer users have been venting frustrations online all morning.
“We have identified the network issue which prevented users from logging in and using Skype today,” the company said in its most recent update around 8 a.m. “We’re in the process of reconnecting our users, and focused on restoring full service.”
We're pleased to say we've found and are now rectifying the Skype problem you may have had today. For latest info: http://t.co/COwIPfl7s3
