MyLogHeaderPee-wee’s big adventure apparently isn’t over yet. Netflix has announced it will premiere a new feature, starring Paul Reubens as Pee-wee Herman, with production to begin next month. It will be available exclusively to Netflix’ subscribers worldwide.

Pee-wee’s Big Holiday unites the now 62-year-old Reubens with Judd Apatow (perhaps best known for Anchorman and Bridesmaids) as the film’s producer. Not much is being said about the film’s script, co-written by Reubens and Paul Rust (of Arrested Development), other than, “a fateful meeting with a mysterious stranger inspires Pee-wee Herman to take his first-ever holiday in this epic story of friendship and destiny.”

Reubens’ iconic character dates back to the original 1985 movie Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, and also the television series Pee-wee’s Playhouse on CBS, which won 22 Emmy awards over five years.

Netflix_Logo_Print_FourColorCMYKIt was a fateful meeting with a different kind of mysterious stranger that derailed Reubens’ career in 1991, when he was arrested by police for indecent exposure in a Florida adult theater. However, he returned to acting under his real name (and not that of his Pee-wee persona) several years later and has appeared in a number of popular film and television roles, including on Reno 911! and The Blacklist.

Netflix has not said when Pee-wee’s Big Holiday will be released on the streaming service. On his blog, Reubens simply exclaims, “We start shooting in 3 weeks!!!”
