AndroidWearforiOSIf you’re a dedicated iPhone user but the Apple Watch doesn’t fit your style (or your budget), you can now pair an Android Wear smartwatch with your Apple smartphone.

Google announced today that iPhone users running iOS 8.2 or beyond (basically, iPhone 5 or newer) can download the Android Wear app to start pairing Wear watches to their phones. The compatibility was leaked late last week when a preorder page for the Huawei Watch mentioned iOS support.

Users will get iOS notifications, along with Google Now cards, native Google-made apps and fitness tracking right on their wrists. Notifications from Google iOS apps like Gmail and Calendar include more detail and richer actions.

Right now, the only smartwatch on the market that supports Android Wear for iOS is the LG Watch Urbane, but Google said that all future Android Wear devices will feature cross-platform support.

However, Google only cut off older devices because they’re running an older version of Android Wear. Tinkerers will likely be able to get the cross-platform compatibility up and running on older watches before long. In fact, The Verge is reporting that the Moto 360 already works without any special hacking.
