iMac27_iMac21_Photos_PRINTChinese government officials are not banned from purchasing Apple products despite earlier reports to the contrary, a representative for the country’s procurement office told Reuters.

The company’s products were left off a list of “energy saving” products, but according to Apple, it was never on that list in the first place.

Government officials can still purchase items including MacBooks and iPads for official use. According to the report, the items were briefly unavailable for purchase on Thursday, but that was due to price adjustments on the Government Central Procurement Center website.

Interestingly, China’s Finance Ministry said that Apple’s products qualify for the energy saving list, but the company has not submitted the proper paperwork to do so.

This is good news for Apple, since the Chinese government’s procurement decisions influence what other large enterprises in the country purchase for their own use. Greater China made up 16 percent of Apple’s revenue last quarter, and the company is focused on growing its reach in the Middle Kingdom.

Earlier this week, a Bloomberg report surfaced claiming that Apple’s products had been dropped from the list due to national security concerns, following the country’s crusade against Microsoft and Windows. China barred Government officials from purchasing products with Windows 8 loaded on them earlier this year, citing security concerns. In addition, Chinese antitrust authorities have raided Microsoft’s offices in the country as a part of a recently-opened inquiry into the company’s practices.
