amazon-logo-300x88More tech companies are starting to release information about the demographics of their workforces, but not every firm is interested in opening up as much as some might want.

It’s the season for companies to file their EEO-1 forms with the federal government, which lay out detailed diversity information based on job classification, and some companies choose to also reveal the information to the public. There are still a few hold-outs, however.

While LinkedIn, Facebook, Google, eBay, Intel and others have disclosed the contents of the reports, USA Today reported that Apple and Amazon have refused to make their EEO-1s public. Both companies have released reports with less detail, instead.

The news comes after Microsoft announced at its shareholder meeting last week that the company plans to release its EEO-1 data, following pressure from Rev. Jesse Jackson and the Rainbow PUSH Coalition. Twitter released its EEO-1 data last week after a request from USA Today.

Amazon and Apple have one interesting thing in common: both companies have a large workforce outside of their core engineering and product development teams – Amazon in its fulfillment centers, Apple in its retail stores. It’s unclear if that has contributed to their unwillingness to disclose the contents of the report. Both companies are known for their secrecy as well: Apple doesn’t even publicly disclose the number of employees it has.

Neither company responded to a request for comment on this report.
