ipadminiMark your calendars, Apple fans, because we may have the date for the company’s next announcement.

AllThingsD reported today that Apple is set to hold a major press event on October 22. While Apple hasn’t said anything about when it will or won’t be holding the event, AllThingsD has had a strong track record of getting an accurate event date. The overall timing of the event also seems reasonable. Apple was expected to hold an event in October, so that it could update the rest of its product line in time for the holidays.

Much like its September event focused on changes to the iPhone, the upcoming event is expected to focus heavily on an update to the iPad and iPad Mini. Incidentally, the 22nd is the same day that Nokia is expected to announce a Windows RT tablet, and the Surface 2 is slated to go on sale. We’ll see if the Apple execs up on stage decide to take aim at Microsoft.

In addition to changes to the iPad and iPad Mini, Apple is expected to highlight Mac OS 10.9 “Mavericks,” its latest update to the operating system powering Macs around the world, as well as changes to iBooks, and the new Mac Pro.

What are you most looking forward to seeing out of a new Apple keynote? Let us know in the comments.
