You don’t see this on the road every day — and especially not on the side of it.

A B-1 bomber fuselage being hauled to Boeing’s Renton, Wash., plant was reportedly marooned for more than a day on Interstate 5 in Northern California late last week after its driver missed the turnoff to connect with a new CHP escort.

The Redding Record-Searchlight posts a picture and reports: “An employee at a nearby gas station said the plane arrived there about 2 a.m. Friday and the drivers told the night employees they were going to find a place to sleep and return later.”

The retired bomber’s trek from Arizona — sans wings — generated plenty of traffic alerts along the way. Here’s a video of the B-1 bomber in action, to get a sense for the magnitude of this thing.
